The Kanawha County Master Gardeners were able to take part in Outdoor Classroom held in late April, 2006 at Camp Virgil Tate.  Outdoor Classroom is designed to educate 4th graders about the outdoors by providing them opportunities to learn about science, nutrition, plants and animals. Classes and various activities rotate throughout the day spending 20 minutes on each activity before moving to the next.

KCMGs were there to introduce the children to plants by explaining various aspects of flowering plants and helping plant a marigold, which the students were able to take home with them. In some cases the flower was to be a Mother's Day gift.

Lead by our new extension agent volunteers helped children pot and water their plants while answering various questions.  For the children it was a fun way to learn about plants and for the volunteers it was a fast paced, high energy experience.  Both participants and volunteers enjoyed and benefited the outing.

Our participation was made possible through a grant from the Conservation District, which has supported our continued participation for a number of years.
